About the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age Psychiatric Trainee Prize for Scholarly Project Award:
The RANZCP’s Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age Psychiatric Trainee Prize for Scholarly Project was established in 2012 to promote excellence in advancing the Quality of Life in Older People with Mental Illness by:
- Encouraging and promoting the highest clinical and ethical standards in the delivery of Psychiatry of Old Age services amongst psychiatry trainees in Australia and New Zealand.
- Encouraging and promoting training in Psychiatry of Old Age of the highest standard for psychiatrists, trainee psychiatrists, medical students, related health professionals, students of related health professions and other medical practitioners.
Eligibility Criteria:
The Award is open to Advanced Trainees in Psychiatry of Old Age, or Fellows who have achieved the Advanced Certificate in Psychiatry of Old Age within the 24 months prior to the submission deadline.
Applicants shall have completed meritorious research in the field of psychiatry of old age, either conducted within the Advanced Training program in Psychiatry of Old Age or the subsequent two years after the granting of an Advanced Certificate. Research should have been performed at least partly in Australasia, within the 2 years prior to application for the Award.
Application Process
Fellows and Advanced Trainees who meet the criteria are required to submit a cover letter and an anonymised copy of their research work (which is the subject of the Award) to the RANZCP before the due date.
Submissions may take the form of:
- The Advanced Certificate in Psychiatry of Old Age Research Project
- A published article; a draft article suitable for publication
- A 2-3 page structured synopsis
Where there are multiple authors involved, the application must indicate the contribution of the applicant’s work.
Form of award
- A/NZ$500
- A reimbursement of funds to the value of A/NZ$1500 for RANZCP Congress day registration for one person, economy flights and one night accommodation for one person (to enable the presentation of the winning essay and to receive the prize).
- A framed certificate.
- An invitation to accept the award at the College Ceremony during Congress.
In addition, all applicants meeting a satisfactory standard receive a certificate acknowledging this.
